Spacing won't fix in InDesign?

This might be a pretty easy solution, but I've looked everywhere and tried everything and can't find one.

When working on InDesign, my text is spacing itself out to fit into the text box and frame instead of keeping the spacing that I want.

Is there anyway to turn this annoying setting off?

Sounds like you have text set to full justify. Set it to left align instead.

InDesign supports horizontal and vertical justification. Neither is on as a default, so it sounds like one or the other was turned on as a default by accident. Defaults are enabled when you choose a command without anything selected. To restore a default, deselect all and then choose the desired command.

But since you didn't specify which or show a screen shot, note that you can also disable vertical justification:
