Specific Pages Loading Slowly in Online Publication (No Photos)

I'm encountering an issue with an InDesign document that I published online. Certain pages in my document are taking significantly longer to load for viewers, while other pages load quickly and smoothly.

The puzzling part is that the slow-loading pages do not contain any photography. They are primarily text-based and include some icons (created within InDesign or placed as vector graphics).

Hi @daramay,

Thanks for the update! As Robert suggested, check if there are any transparency effects on those slower pages. Since your icons are SVG/AI and one of the pages includes download buttons, it could also be related to complex vector paths or interactive elements.

Try replacing the icons with PNGs, and either simplify or temporarily remove the buttons to test. Also, try flattening transparency on those pages. You could duplicate the file, remove specific elements, and publish a test version to help isolate the issue without needing to share the original file.

Let me know how it goes!

I was able to isolate the issue to it being some of the shapes that were bleeding over the edge. I cropped them down and that seemed to resolve the issue.  Thank you, everyone.

Hi @daramay,

Could you let me know which version of InDesign and OS you're working with? Also, are the icons native to InDesign or imported as SVG/AI files?

If possible, please try publishing a test version of the file after converting the icons to simpler paths or replacing them with PNGs to check if there's a noticeable performance improvement.

Let me know what you observe. Looking forward to your update!

Abhishek

Hi! I am working on macOS Sonoma Version 14.2 and Adobe Indesign 20.2.  The icons are a mixture of .svg and .ai linked. I'll give the PNGs a try. The interesting thing is one of the other pages in question doesn't have icons. It is a brand page about our logo (which has download buttons for our logo).

What browser are you viewing publish online doc? Have you tried a different browser with same result?

I have tried Chrome and Safari, the same thing happens.  The document is going to be available to clients so it needs to function in any possible scenario.
