Constantly spinning blue circle frame in mid-section of the top In-Design Banner. What does this mean?

Thank you.

Hi @Methil Printing Company:

Now that it's been around for a while, I can tell you that I have observed it in two situations:

  1. When InDesign is performing a background task (i.e., activating a whole bunch of fonts). You can see the background task if you go to Window > Utility > Background task.
  2. I've also seen it when InDesign is attempting to reach out to the Adobe servers, but the user is not signed in.

P.S.

RE: Adobe MUST know the answer to this simple question.

Most of us answering here are not Adobe staff. We are expert users, who have time to get back to the community and have been vetted by Adobe to answer user questions. The Adobe InDesign team undoubtably knows all reasons the blue circle appears, but you're mostly reaching other users on the Community forums.

Does anyone have an answer to this yet? I would prefer if the question is not answered by asking a load of other questions. It doesn't really matter what OS I'm on, what computer I'm using or any other setup, there is NO consistency as to WHEN it appears, and we do not have our eye fixed on the menu bar, to let us know what operation we were doing when it does appears - it just appears, unannounced and doesn't have any info on hover over, to let us know what it's doing or what it's for. We just want to know why it's there and what it is doing - Adobe MUST know the answer to this simple question.

Hi @lucyg15936178:

I see it on occasion on my screen, and on my student's screens (top right, near the Share button). It eventually goes away, but I suspect that signing out of your CC account and back in will take care of it more quickly. Or maybe just restarting InDesign? I really haven't focused on it but I'll try to keep an eye on it now. It hasn't impacted anything beyond a subtle feeling of annoyance so it's flying under my radar.

What were you doing in InDesign when this started? Does it do this in just one particular file, or every file you try to work with?

Can you post a screenshot please.
