Question

Sporadically missing pdf-elements in pdf-export

We have had and have a problem in Indesign CS5 and now IndesignCC for years.

The problem occurs rarely, time by time, it is not replicable.

Operating System, Windows 7, different users, different workstations

The problem:

The documents content one ore more pdf-elements. When exporting to pdf, one or more of the elements are lacking in th created pdf.

When repeating the same export without any change (no restart, same settings etc.), the created pdf is complete.

The elements and documents are loaded and written to/from samba-netshares from different places in a WAN.

The speed of the network seems to have influence: the slower the line, the more frequent the occurance.

Any ideas or same experiences?

You almost nailed the right answer yourself:

The next statement should be:

keep linked stuff locally - no missing elements.

That's it.

Thank you, nice answer, but - as I think - not a very elegant solution.

The users are using common element-inventories. All material would have to be spreaded.

Is there a better way? I think, ID should be able to work correctly with net shares.

Unfortunately, it's still is (and always was) very picky to network quality.

EDIT. One of possible solutions: before final export "gather" all the stuff locally via Package...

Well that's not really 'elegant', again
