Question

Standard Ligatures don't work in inDesign 18.2 (2023)

Hello everyone,

I ran into a problem, my font does not work fully in inDesign 18.2.1 (2023).

Standard Ligatures and Stylistic Alternates is unavailable. I would not know, but my client told me about it. Same font works fine in 2020 version.

I checked that the Ligatures function is activated in Character window menu and Stylistic Alternates are displaying in Glyph window. Font file has OTF format.

For the font creating I use Fontlab 7.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue and has a solution?

You created the font in FontLab? Might be something to do with how the font was encoded.

Note: One thing that changed between InDesign 2020 and 2023 is that InDesign no longer supports PostScript fonts, so there might be a connection there.

I don't know anything about FontLab, but I do know a lot about fonts in general and Unicode specifically.

The standard Latin ligatures are defined here by the Unicode.org: https://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/UFB00.pdf

Hopefully someone with more experience with FontLab will chime in on this discussion.

Thank you for your opinion, Bevi

It turned out that when I installed Adobe inDesign 2023 on my computer, it's all working nice.

It looks like this is some kind of local problem with operation system of my client.

She has not been able to solve this problem unfortunately.
