Is the delay in InDesign's load time, or the file that's opening? How long does InDesign take to load if you just launch the application without also loading a file?

But a number of things have changed since CS5, not all of them for the better.

• You can turn off the welcome screen/home screen within InDesign. Go to your InDesign>Preferences>General menu command and de-select the Show Home Screen When No Documents Are Open check box. Then InDesign will open directly into your document.
• Go to the Window>CCLibraries menu command and close the network library. It eats internet bandwidth and slows opening your document opening until InDesign "phones home" to Adobe servers to give you access to your CC Library stored in the cloud. Even if there's nothing there. Whenever you create new color swatches, paragraph and character styles, object styles and pattern swatches, make sure that you don't include them in your CC Libraries, or InDesign will open your CC Library again. After you kill your CC Library panel graveyard dead, create a new workspace to use for your default for working with InDesign and it should ensure the CC Library panel doesn't slow your document opening again.
• If you're experienced with woking with InDesign CS5, you've hopefully got the fonts you need for your work. Go to your Adobe Creative Cloud application and turn off Adobe Fonts. InDesign phones home for any Adobe Fonts too, even if you're not using any. And while it doesn't happen universally, auto-updating Creative Cloud and Adobe applications slows your system when you open the application/file too whenever Adobe deems you need an update. Kill the Auto-update options for those too. You'll have to update manually, but at least you can do that on your terms, at your time.

There are other things you may be able to do to speed up the process. We don't know the specifications for your system or what kind of files you're working with/how complex they are. If you can share that information, that'll help us advise you on other possibilities for speeding up InDesign on your system. But the three things I outlined above are a good place to start. Try these, and let us know if you've had any progress. And if you share the information requested at the start of this paragraph, it'll help us help you.
