Sticky paragraph style when pasting

For reasons unbeknown to me the paste function in INDD has decided to paste with a bullet paragraph style I created. After the paste I can click on the basic paragraph style and the bullets go away but that's counter productive. Can someone please tell me how to return the paste function to normal. I'm certain it's simple, but right now, past me.
