Stuck on a line

Hello!

Novice user here thinking there must be a way...

Working on a textbook and trying to create a numbered list (reader needs to put in sequential order by filling in the line before text). Font being used in Roboto Slab and the underscore has gaps between the (5) underscore lines. How can I keep the character style on the numbers but modify the underscore/line to be a solid line?

Any suggestions are much appreciated

😉

Would a paragraph ruler line be an option for you?

Boy, that's tough. I thought of a couple of approaches before I got to my desk, and forgot fine details like "numbering doesn't permit two tabs" and "numbering doesn't actually exist as an accessible element in the document" — which scotched several GREP style ideas.

So it's not just you/novice, but ID's numbering being something of a closed box to work with.

The first solution seems to work but I can't quite figure out how it's applied.

Thank you for your reply. I was able to solve my problem making a few adjustments to the paragraph ruler and it works perfectly. Thanks 😉

Yes, the paragraph ruler is a great option. I didn't think of it but it works perfectly. Thank you for your help!

I'm glad that my tip helped.

This method basically works - with one exception: If text frames with different widths are used in the document, you need a separate paragraph format for each width. However, this does not seem to be the case here.
