How can I make a new swatch grouping available to other files in InDesign?

Correct answer Pariah Burke

Easy!

  1.  Create your color swatch group(s) and save the InDesign document.
  2. In another InDesign document, open the Swatches panel (Window > Color > Swatches).
  3. On the Swatche panel, go to the menu and choose Load Swatches.
  4. Navigate to, and open, your previous InDesign document.

All the swatches, including how they were arranged in groups, will be loaded from the first file into the second.

Hi GraphicProf,

One way is to select your swatches in the Swatches panel, and then click the Swatches panel menu button and then choose Save (or Load) Swatches.

Essentially your are Saving (exporting) an Adobe Swatch Exchange .ASE file with your color definitions.

If you want these swatches in all new documents going forward, have no documents open and click the Swatches panel menu button to Load (Import) the .ASE file you exported/saved.

Another way to share swatches is to put them into CC Libraries in a named Swatches folder and then share that folder with other users (or yourself in a next/another document.
