Question

Synchronize strips styles from text in object

So this is an odd bug I've discovered.  I'm still trying to figure out if it's me or a problem with InDesign CC.  I have a book with multiple chapters.  Chapter 1 is the style source.  In most of the chapters, there is a text-filled object called NFTF Box.  Each NFTF Box has several paragraph styles in it (manually applied).  In the Object Style Options for the NFTF Box, it states: Paragraph Style: Paragraph Style: Name: [No Paragraph Style].

However, when I synchronize documents, the paragraph styles get stripped from the text in the NFTF Boxes in all except Chapter 1 (the style source).  This happens every time.  Given that no paragraph style is designated for NFTF Box, it shouldn't be stripping paragraph styles from boxes in other chapters.  Incidentally, I have other object styles with text in them, and synchronizing documents does not strip those of their style.  Does anyone have any clue what could be going wrong?

You should not choose no paragraph style, as this is the built in style, you have to deactivate the option left of all sections in the Object Stye definition. As soon as you activate this option, it will apply this definition, even if you choose no style or whatever you want.

if I understand you well, you have an Object style (with No Paragraph style as an option) and some Paragraph styles in the Paragraph Style Panel. All these are defined in Chapter 1. And the texts in NFTF boxes in other chapters are also have manually applied styles. Is it right?

In this case the synchronizing makes 2 parallel processes:

1. Synchronizing Object styles which update the NFTF boxes appearance and other options.

2. Synchronizing Paragraph Styles Panel. The paragraph styles inside boxes become updated because they "overrided" the object style and obey the Paragraph Styles Panel settings.

Is it what you see in your text?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  I'm not entirely sure I understand you, but I believe the answer is "yes" for the first process and "no" for the second.  Both the object styles and paragraph styles in the source document and all other documents in the book are identical.  I synchronize for cross-reference reasons.  Because all styles in all documents are the same, no styles should be changing when I synchronize.  And yet, which I do synchronize, paragraph styles in just that one type of text-object disappear and are replaced with plain text.

do you have any other text boxes with "No Paragraph Style" applied? What is their behaviour?
