Question

Tab key not working in Indesign's authentication window

With third-party connectivity that needs CEP extensions and plug-ins to be installed, I'm running InDesign 2022 (17.3). I need to connect to a VPN because I work from home. I choose Connect from the Indesign menu bar, and then I sign in with Single Sign-On (SSO) using our Identity Providers (IDPs). The authentication window is the source of the issue. To enter my name, I must click on the Username field; however, I am unable to utilize the TAB key to navigate to the Password field. I am unable to switch between those fields.

I submitted a support complaint to the firm that created the Indesign connector, but they are merely criticizing Adobe, stating that "the checks are pointing at the TAB key not working in the SecureAuth IDP authentication window when loaded in the CEP extension developed by InsightSoftware. i.e., this does not look like an issue with our connectors and instead seems to be an issue with Adobe InDesign"

Naturally, I contacted Adobe support, but they said: "As you are using the 3rd party software for authentication, it's not allowing you to use the TAB key, and it's not an issue with the Adobe application as you are also using a VPN, which we don't recommend using." When I contacted Adobe a second time, they just offered me a temporary solution. Go to System Preferences/Accessibility/Keyboard, then turn on Full Keyboard Access. This doesn't appear to function with any other versions of macOS but Monterey. You can't use Shift-Tab keys to go to a previous field plus it brings other issues.

I also use another 3rd party connector called Cloudinary that requires extensions & Plug-ins to be installed but the login page opens in a browser window, and I have no problems using the Tab key.

I'm in the center between what the 3rd party said and what Adobe said. Any suggestions?

Hi @nrod2012,

Thank you for your patience. The team confirmed that there is no such issue on the InDesign side. What is the reason behind the 3rd party as an Adobe InDesign issue? Is it possible for you to share a screen recording of the issue?

We will make every effort to assist you.

Thanks,

Harshika
