Table cell text visible in Story Editor but invisible in layout view
I'm working on a product catalog in InDesign (CC) based on an Adobe template. This week I noticed that text in certain table cells had disappeared across all my saved versions. After extensive troubleshooting I've narrowed down the issue and am hoping someone has seen this before.
The Situation:
- Tables were built from an Adobe template
- Affected cells are body rows manually styled to look like headers
- Text is completely visible and intact in Story Editor
- # symbols appear in the cells in layout view, suggesting overset text, but cells are actually empty in layout
- Selecting all in the cell selects nothing
- The file was opened on a second machine around March 13th via CC sync
What I've Already Tried:
- Replaced missing Source Sans Pro (OTF) with Source Sans Pro (TT) via Find Font with Redefine Styles checked
- Cleared paragraph style overrides
- Corrected paragraph style definition to reference available font
- Toggled Display Performance to High Quality
- Exported to IDML and reopened
- Updated InDesign
- Checked cell insets, row height, vertical justification, overprint — all normal
Nothing has resolved the issue. Has anyone encountered text that exists in Story Editor but simply won't render in layout view? Any suggestions welcome.
