Table of Contents exported in PDF not being read in Read Out Loud

Have you tested with NVDA or Jaws? Read aloud does not(!) follow the Tags tree but uses the Contents tree at best (sometimes not even that). Read aloud is not seriously used as an Accessibility Screen Reader.

Could you please confirm whether your issue is specifically that when a tagged PDF is generated with the TOC and the "Include Hyperlinks" option enabled during PDF export, Acrobat Read Out Loud does not read the Table of Contents?

If that's exactly what you're experiencing, I'd like to let you know that we already have a bug logged for this issue, and the product team is actively working on a fix. I'll keep this thread updated as soon as I have any progress to share.

In the meantime, the available workarounds are:

• Export the PDF without enabling the Hyperlinks option. This allows Read Out Loud to read the TOC correctly, but the TOC hyperlinks will no longer function.

• Alternatively, you can manually adjust the tags in Acrobat after export if preserving the hyperlinks is required.

If your issue is different from the above, please let us know so we can investigate further.

Regarding the other behavior you mentioned, where alt text applied to inline figures is not being read, we also have a bug logged for that issue. You can refer to the following thread for updates:
