Question

Table of Contents puzzle....

I have a book with two author types: Award Authors and Standard Authors.

For Award Author pages, they begin with the Award Title. Standard Authors' pages don't.

The Award Title and Standard Author styles contain a page break to ensure every entry author's entry begins on a new page.

The table of contents appears like this:
For Award Authors:

Award Title

Author Name > Article Title > Page Number

For Standard Authors:

Author Name > Article Title > Page Number

More specifically, the layout is kinda like this:

In the TOC styles I have a single style, TOC Author, for all authors' names.

I just added the page break to Standard Authors this morning. Before that, the TOC and contents all appeared properly. As soon as I added the Standard Author styling with the break, I lost the space between the title and page number in all instances.

Nothing else changed. Been trying to troubleshoot why this is happening, but haven't made any progress... any ideas?

Confidential/WIP so I can't post files.

thanks

I am having some trouble mapping out your exact layout etc., but I'd suggest creating two TOC paragraph styles, one for regular author entries and one for award authors. They can be identical in all respects, but separately assigned.

It's a starting point.

Can you post a screen capture of the TOC dialog for both types of author?

Yes, that's what I was looking for, but I have to say I'm confused.

Your TOC definitions appear to be identical for both (unless the hiddent info makes a distinction), and include both types of authors, and no page numbers, so I don't quite see how you ever got anything resembling two distinct TOCs ast described above.

Simple question: are you creating separate TOC 'styles' for each of these cases?

Hey James -

So far, I have not been able to post an answer. I tried responding immediately... As soon as I type something in regard to what I posted previously, it tells me it's spam & says I can't post for 3600 minutes.

[seeing if editing works... the answer is no, I'm using a single TOC style for both.]
