I want to adjust the width of the columns in my table, but I don't want the table size to change.  If you can help, thanks.

Shift+drag column lines.

Alt+drag-right inserts a column, by the way. Alt+drag-down inserts a row.

So easy when you know how.  Thanks so much.

Two takeaways: the Adobe help probably has these functional shortcuts; always worth a look to learn the overall, structured way a feature works. But second, ID is simply loaded with these right-there but sort of invisible functions. If dragging a column makes the table width change, you can usually bet a nickel that there's an alternate function one control-key away. Experiment when you're looking for such things.

But glad to have a simple answer on tap, in any case.
