Text goes missing after copying between layers in InDesign 14.03

I work on a multilanguage brochure where I keep all the pictures in one layer and the languages in their own layers. When the first language is complete I copy the text frames to a new layer where I then translate to the new language. After doing that and going back to the original layer, I can no longer see the original text. There is only a blank frame. If I click on the little plus down the right side, the text shows up but not in my original format. Any way to get around this?

Working on iMac late 2015.

Hm. I assume that your text frames have text wrap applied.

Turn Text Wrap off. Menu Window > Text Wrap

It's a bit faster to duplicate the layer, instead of creating a new layer and copy/pasting, and you will still need to address the text wrap.

It could be that you have a Text Wrap attribute applied to your text frames. In that case, the new frames being on a layer above the original ones would force the text to overset just as you are describing. If your layout requies that attribute, then you will need to add Ignore Text Wrap to the affected boxes to make the text in them reappear.

If you have accidently added the text wrap, remove the attribute to fix the issue.
