Text is displayed in low-res except when being edited

Latest Win11 Pro, latest InDesign. Text is displayed in noticably lower quality when not being edited with all settings set to high. For the current price tag in 2024 this is ridiculous.

No, it's white/light blue text on dark blue background. It shows correctly if I turn overprint preview on, but that significantly slows down performance. It should show correctly either way.
