Question

Text shortcut jumps back to direct selection tool

Hi all,

today I opened  a document to make updates in it. When I want to make changes in a text frame I usually just hit the "T" on my keyboard and start making correction in the selected type frame.

Now when I hit "T" and want to start typing the cursor chanes to the direct selection tool (black arrow). I need to double click in the text frame to modify text.

This really annoys me and can't find a sollution to solve this. This is not the first time this happened I don't know why.

Does anyone has the same issue? Or maybe a good soul can help me with this?

Hello, there is an update since yesterday for indesign & Incopy. You should try it and back to us if the issue is still here.

Yes I installed the update.

The issue isn't a version problem but something else. I had the same problem with different files, using older versions of Indesign.

First of all the Direct Selection tool is the white arrow which is usually accessed by typing the letter "A". The black arrow is the regular Selection tool which has the letter "V" as its keyboard shortcut.

Are you saying that the Type tool is actually activated by typing a "T" (the cursor is blinking) and then switches to the Selection tool upon typing? Have you tried activating the Type tool by double-clicking inside the text frame? This will work if the text frame has been selected with one of the selection tools first. Does it work correctly then? If you actually click on the Text tool first does it work correctly? Is this happening on all documents or just certain ones?

Hi Bill,

yes i mean the regular selection tool. sorry for that.

Normaly when nothing is selected in Indesign i just hit T go over a text frame, click and start changing the text.

Now when i hit T the cursor changes back to the V tool.

Therefore I need to do when of both things:

1. double click on the text frame (the black arrow changes in type tool)

2. Go in the menu on the left, select the type tool and start making changes.

Please help 😮
