Text symbols moving to the start of a sentence when typing on a path

Text symbols moving to the start of a sentence when typing on a path in Indesign.

 

For example, I am writing the sentence 'XX | fluffy pancakes', the '|' symbol moves to the start of the sentence when typing on a path. My language setting is English UK on the text box, and also in Preferences. Is there something I am missing? Thank you.

No problems here with InDesign 2020 and macOS 10.15.3.

 

Please tell us what operating system (exactly) you're running. Please tell us (exactly) what InDesign version you're using.

 

How did you create the "pipe" character? On my Mac keyboard, I pressed the Shift key with the "backslash" key (just above the Return key). Perhaps you entered keystrokes that moved your cursor instead.

Hi Steve,

 

OS Mojave Version 10.14.6 (18G2022). This issue does not appear when I open a new document, only when editing the existing one. Unfortunately, I am unable to recreate this multiple times on the new document (time constraints). When I copy the object over, the issue persists. Any ideas?

I wonder if the document was created in the Arabic version of InDesign.

 

I'd export the document to IDML and reopen it and see if that fixes it.

 

File>export and choose IDML format - reopen that IDML and save it as an InDesign file.
