Text to Outlines in Indesign placed from Illustrator

Hi there

I have an indesign document which I have placed text outlined Illustrator documents but when I pdf my document the fonts are still showing up in PDF, I've edited every placed filed to check the fonts are outlined, and they seem to be.

My document in AI is set up with two artboards - an A4 one with text on it and a smaller one on top with text which is the one I have outlined the text on and placed in indesign.

Is the indesign document picking up the fonts from my A4 Illustrator artboard even though I am only placing the smaller artboard into Indesign?

Thanks for your help

Yes - it would be the case as it's part of the file.

Why are you outlining fonts? PDFs will embed the fonts anyway - I'm not really sure why you're doing this - although there are legit reasons to do so.

A better way to outline your final PDF

Keep all your text live (so you can edit it)

When you make the PDF - go to the Acrobat and go to the Preflight options - and here you can find an option to outline all text.

This is a cleaner and better way to outline your fonts in your PDF.

And keeps the text live in the artwork.

Think about it - you're making extra work by outlining all your text - updating the links.

You might as well remove those steps and just do 1 final outline at final PDF stage.

Thank you for your response,

Our printer seems to prefer to have the fonts outlined.
