Question

The best way to find/change a long list of various changes?

Hi

I work on books a lot, after sending the first version of the book to my colleagues. I'll get a list of changes 100+ for every book, the book can be 350-1000 pages, doing it manually does not sound efficient, so I'm wondering if there's a way to put those changes on an Excel file and bring it to InDesign to navigate them quickly instead of copying from Excel then paste on Indesign find and change one by one, note the changes can be replacing the text or changing the format of the text, so it's important to not change everything automatically.

Hi @AK09M:

Are you talking about formatting changes, or text edits?

And in addition to @Manan Joshi's tip about using theFindChangeList script that comes free with InDesign (but needs to be set up for your query list), do you know that you can save any Find/Change Query so that you can just select it from the Query list at the top of the F/C dialog box when you need it?

Hi @Barb Binder

80% are formating, like change the color or make it bold...etc.

I'm aware of FindChangeList script but it's not what I need.
I'm simply looking for a way to navigate the find list/table by importing the table/list to indesign and jump between them with one click.

That sounds like a use case for the FindChangeList script shipped with InDesign. So the idea is to save the find/change queries in the txt file(FindChangeList.txt) and then the script reads the file and applies the changes on the document automatically. Give it a look and see if it suits your needs

That script works with some of the changes I need, but what I'm really looking for is a way to navigate the find list/table by importing the table/list to InDesign and jump between them with one click, since most of the changes are formating the text not replacing it.
