The spot colour is there though, so it will still be it's own seperation. This could be solved if Photoshop could somehow pass on the colour info to inDesign. Although, I think if I make a Spot channel that is not a PANTONE, then it works fine. I guess if we just change the name of that spot colour to something different, it should display just fine (?!)
Since Pantone swatches in ID etc. are purely a convenience, it's a matter of time before two things happen: "aftermarket" swatches become common and most designers learn to quickly create needed swatches.
I guess if you work with Pantone day in and day out, it's a hassle, but I don't think I've done genuine Pantone spot color work five times in the last ten years.
Won't Pantone be amused when the subscriptions fall to nothing but the big-shop core.
Looks like the capture is from a Photoshop doc with Spot Channels. I haven’t installed the latest PS, but you should be able to manually install the old Pantone .acb files in Applications ▸ Adobe Photoshop 202X ▸ Presets ▸ Color Books. If the .acb files are manually installed do you still get the Spot Channel color converting to black?
Also for InDesign, you could by pass the need for .acb files with this:
