Times New Roman TTF replaced with OTF in InDesign after Windows Security Update installed

Since this post seems to be marked as resolved after the Adobe Community update and it isn’t resolved, I’m creating a new post and linking to the old one. All the relevant information can be found here (at least all of the information that survived the Adobe Community update -- there are several missing posts).

Long story short -- when you install Windows Security updates, some system fonts -- Times New Roman for me -- throw a missing font error in InDesign. This error only goes away if you uninstall the Windows Security update. More detailed info can be found in the linked post.

This issue has been going on for literally months, since last November, and we’ve got bupkis to show for it -- less than bupkis now that some of the original posts have been nerfed with the Adobe Community update and the original thread appears dead. Adobe. Please. Help. This is beyond frustrating now...

Oh, and by the way, at the moment I do not have this problem with Times New Roman - I opened a 20-year-old InDesign file typeset in Times New Roman the other day without any problem. My version of Times New Roman is 7.11.

This does not just concern Times New Roman, but a number of other fonts as well.

This issue is emphatically not resolved!  I had to restore my machine to early November in order to remove the problematic Windows update and have had to keep Windows updates turned off since then.  That workaround has continued to function, but we cannot leave Windows updates off forever. Please, please get this resolved, Adobe!!

Also, I only recently joined the community--because of this very issue--and the community update mentioned above removed my identity from the community...which is a useful feature if you want to reduce complaints, I suppose...

Leaving Windows updates turned off is not an option for me, our Head of IT would give me a lot of grief if I did. Collaboration with someone using InDesign on a Mac coming up, let us see what happens when I get files from them. And this does not just concern Times New Roman.

Yes, there are definitely more fonts than Times New Roman that are affected by this issue. Also, I work on Windows at home and Mac in the office. “Fixing” the fonts on Windows using the Find/Replace font function and changing them from the “missing” TTF version to OTF versions, breaks the fonts on Mac for me, which is a big part of why this issue has been such a pain.
