Track changes for tables linked to excel

I am trying to activate track changes for tables that I have linked to excels so that indesign shows where these cells have changes. When activating track changes it doesn't show changes made in the excel document.

Linked Excel files need all edits, including merged cells, to be done in the Excel file. The only thing done in InDesign (if link is done properly) is the application of Table and Cell styles, so the InDesign track changes has nothing to keep track of.

Options:

  • Use Excel's co-authoring feature with version control (requires 365 subscription)
  • Use legacy Track Changes feature in Excel (you need to add it to the ribbon Review tab)
  • Take a look at Emsoftware.com WordsFlow (not a perfect solution but may help your workflow)

You might just as well give that up. It's a linked object. You're not going to be able to track those changes in InDesign unless you make the changes in InDesign.
