Transparency issues in latest InDesign Version

There are several posts related to transparency flattening in the community. However, I am having issues in both InDesign and Illustrator for the last few months. And I believe it is a change in the software that is causing this.

For example: I am attaching two exported PDF files that are identical in creation. One has some text updates that were made this year. All other settings remain the same. When the 2025 file is printed it has transparency boxes issues. The 2024 file prints fine. In looking at the details in Acrobat, the only thing different is the version of InDesign. Version 20.3 vs Version 19.5 (Macintosh)

What changed? Can I revert back to test and see if I am correct? I am on Creative Cloud.

Can Adobe fix this issue? It is causing me so much trouble.

Also, so that you know I read forums.... I saw fixes like this: https://creativepro.com/eliminating-ydb-yucky-discolored-box-syndrome/

But I don't want to have to do extra work to get it to act like it did in 2024. I am attaching the two PDFs in case someone wants to see if they see something I don't.

Hi @longstation , Does it happen if you export to the PDF/X-4 preset with Color Conversion set to Convert to Destination and the Destination set to Document CMYK? Also what is your document’s Transparency Blend Space set to? Document CMYK? And are you viewing the PDF in Acrobat?

These settings worked. Thank you Rob!

Identical in creation? What does that mean?

We need your export settings, but FWIW, you should avoid flattening PDFs, especially if spot colors are involved. If you have to use a luddite printer that still requires flattened PDFs, design according and avoid transparency.

I swear to you. I have tried every variant of export settings possible. So I could send you some, and the truth is.

A) It doesn't matter what the export settings are on the 2024 file

B) No matter what version of PDF compatability with transparency you pick for 2025 file, which is in essence the same file.... does it work.
