Trouble cancelling my annual subscription

I don't feel Abobe is transparent or ethical with their subscriptions Ts &Cs. Didn't realise I was on an annual subscription. I tried to cancel my subscription within the 14 days trial period back in May and thought I had done that, but instead I was lured onto a two months worth of subscription for 'free' deal. It's not true that it's free as it meant I was over the 14 days trial period. So then I get billed for August.. I've just tried to cancel the subscription again and they say I have to pay the 50% cancellation fee! I've just cancelled the direct debit myself through PayPal - what will happen now?
