Trouble importing Word documents into Indesign

The past last weeks I have difficulties withe just simply importing Word-documents into Indesign. It has never been a problem before, but now it seems Indesign has a enormous job on 'processing paragraph styles' etc. It takes a lot of time, actually it seems like Indesign is crashing in the meantime. Anyone who recognizes this problem? And more: Anyone who knows what's the solution for this problem?

Hi

Frankly speaking docx and doc documents are very instable. Especially when someone used any automatisation, footnotes, indexes etc. Try to convert Yours documents into RTF and then place them. I never place doc or docx files into InDesign beacuse very often I had problems with disappering footnotes. I always save the as RTFs

Utilizing the import options allows you to set how your word documents import. You can convert them to RTF via that instead of taking the extra step to convert outside ID.

Hold the shift key when importing to get MS Word options before it imports.

Try turning off the styles and bringing in plain text.

It could be that the specific document has something causing conflcits/issues when importing.
