Trouble with vertical distribute

I'm working with CC 2017.1

For some reason I'm not getting correct results when trying to distribute vertically.  It gives me uneven results.  I have selected "align to selection" and have done this numerous times on an older version of InDesign.  I can't figure out what is wrong.  Any suggestions?

Below what you can see is just another table that spans all three columns.

And, that is exactly what I have done.  I'm not sure if you can tell, but just the right column is selected.  The top and bottom tables are positioned correctly.  Then, I made sure that I had "align to selection" and then selected "distribute vertical center"

I can't find anything else amiss.  When I try and do regular alignment, it works fine.  It just isn't distributing properly.

Thanks for you help.  Can you think of anything else I might have missed?

Back up for second. Use the distribute vertical space button in the alignment panel.

Screenshots of what you’re doing would be a help.

I have a series of tables I'm trying to align vertically (in 3 columns).  The result on the far right is what I got.

Try the use spacing option.
