Question

troubles moving and resizing an image

hi, so I'm having some troubles with my images. when I resize an image and place it where I would like it (blue box), it becomes invisible and I can no longer see it. this is until I find the brown box and place it over my image and I can then see it again. sometimes the blue box will only shrink to a certain size and not become any smaller. when I finally relocate my image, it is super zoomed in and not the size I wanted at all.

is there a simple way to do both at the same time, moving both the blue and brown box at once?

I have tried some of the suggestions I have found online, such as holding the command button, as well as shift, but nothing seems to be working. are there settings that I can change where the two boxes become one?

thanks in advance!

Since you mention both Blue and Brown boxes it sounds like your image is on the default layer 1 and using the default colors for the frame (blue) and image (frame content -- brown bounding box).

Make sure you are using the regular Selection Tool (black arrow) and selecting the frame, not the image. Also you need to avoid the "donut" in the center of the frame when trying to reposition the entire frame rather than reposistioning the image inside the frame.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. I would like to know if the steps suggested above by @Jumpenjax worked for you? If not, I would request you to share a few more details like:

  • OS and version of InDesign
  • Is the issue related to a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document and the images with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link.
  • Where are you saving the files (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System/ External HDD)?
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, plugins, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Does turning off "GPU Performance" from preferences Cmd + k > GPU Performance > uncheck GPU Performance helps to resolve the issue?
  • Does resetting InDesign Preferences (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/indesign-preferences-support-file-locations.html) help to resolve the issue?
Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings, and InDesign will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.

We will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini
