Trying to remember how to use InCopy to handle multiple ID docs

Hi, Dear Friends!

I used to know how to handle this, but my medication has zappppped my memory....:(

I re-use texts across multiple ID docs. But as I work, i edit the text in a given ID doc and want the source story updated. I saw a while ago the best way to handle this is by having the source doc in an InCopy file. I then place it on a child doc. I check out id editing is required. If i add any important edits to the story, i can update the source by "checking in" to Incopy. The above can be repeated across many ID docs, and when I place the story again, it will reflect all the edits I have made until then.

Is this the complete way to do this?

Thank you, and have a good day!

Hi SF,

Have you ever tried Edit > Place and Link ?

https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/linked-content.html

BTW, InDesign can also check out InCopy-linked content files. You can also use InCopy, but you don't have to leave InDesign for this checkin-checkout feature.

Thank you for your attention!

I will check the reference.

Can that scheme update the source doc based on edits in the child doc. Basically I need two way syncing....

As I understand it, Place and Link has a parent to child relationship.
