Two kind of footnotes in one document: asterisks and numbers / independent footnotes

I will be preparing a book with translated letters of foreign poet. It will have tonz of footnotes (about 500) from translator/redactors. Unf. in some of letters author added own footnoted comments to some words. :] (about 50 places). Those should be marked with asterisks only and ultimately placed above normal footnotes (are part of his epistolography -- are not just later comments).

Can do this manually, with anchored frames, but it seems to me rather ineffective solution.

Please -- maybe someone could advice how to do this better way... Maybe there is script for similar cases?
