Question

typsetting Sinhala in Indesign (latest version 2019)

Hi, I worked on an Indesign project in Sinhala.

I was supplied an idml file (The translation tool used was MEMOQ), saved as Indesign, applied World ready composers, applied the language to the character window and used a font called Iskoola Pota.

The characters appear but what is happening is one Sinhala character appears as 2 characters in Indesign.

However when I copy the relevant text from MSword to indesign the text will display correctly.

Any feedback on this would be great.

Illustrator is now support Sinhalese (with Southeast Asia languages) but InDesign isn't support yet.

Thanks

copying from an RTF or word document works for now.

You need to upgrade to InDesign 2020 (released November 2019). It has additional support for Southeast Asia languages including Sinhala:
