Question

Unable to access InDesign files, all files save as PDF

Hello,

I have been having a problem with InDesign where I can see indesign files in windows folder preview, but when I open the folder, they appear as .PDFs. I also have not been able to open them directly through InDesign. I have to go to folders and right click>open with InDesign 2020. All new InDesign files I make also save as .PDFs. I have been able to open these with InDesign with all of my settings/grids etc. intact but it still shows as a .PDF file. Is this a bug? Is there a setting that I need to change that I'm not aware of?

Thanks for any help I may be able to get.

You have somehow associated INDD files with Acrobat. I know how to do this on Mac, but not Windows.

Here’s what I found with Google:

Scott, this is a known issue on Macs. I haven't heard of it happening on Windows.

Right click one of the files, choose get info, then open with InDesign. Be sure to enable the O/S to always open them with InDesign.
