Hi,

I  having terrible issue with Indesign 21.4.1. (on Win 11).

From time to time the icon of saving appears (the blue rotating circle) and it stucks in that state. I can’t close the program and even kill the task from Task Manager. I can reopen the document and close it, but the icon starts to keep on turning.

But I cannot close the indesign itself! It has even appeared afer restart as nonresponsive background!!!  First time in my 30 PC experience I saw something like that.

I tried to install the previous version (20.5.4) and that version is fine.

    Hi,

    Hi,

Unfortunately, I am working on a corporate account and have limited administrative privileges, so I am unable to create a new Windows user account.  have disabled the AI features and renamed the Cache folder to Cache_Old. Now InDesign crashes when: dragging a page from one open document to another, or copying objects via the clipboard and pasting them into a second document.

    Best regards,

    Hi @pyotrg10000892,

Thank you for the update and for taking the time to try the suggested troubleshooting steps.

Since you're working on a corporate-managed machine, I understand that creating a new Windows user account isn't possible. At the very least, could you please involve your IT team and test the issue by starting Windows in Safe Mode? This will help determine whether a third-party service or background process is contributing to the behavior.

Additionally, could you please confirm whether the crashes also occur when working with two brand-new local InDesign documents, and let us know where the affected documents are stored? Are they on a local drive, network share, OneDrive, SharePoint, or another synced location?

Also, when InDesign crashes, do you see the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog? If so, please submit the crash report and share the email address you used to submit it with me via DM, so we can analyze the crash logs with the team.

Finally, if possible, could you please share a screen recording demonstrating the issue in action? Seeing the complete workflow leading up to the crash will greatly help us investigate further.

    Looking forward to your update.

    Abhishek

    Hi @piotrg10000892,

Thanks for reporting this, and I'm sorry you're running into this issue.

Since the behavior appears to be specific to InDesign 21.4.1, could you please start by going through the troubleshooting steps in this HelpX article: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/crash-on-launch.html. Additionally, please try disabling both Generative AI options in InDesign Preferences, restart InDesign, and check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem persists, please create a new Windows user account and test the same workflow there to determine whether the issue is user profile-specific: https://support.microsoft.com/windows/manage-user-accounts-in-windows-104dc19f-6430-4b49-6a2b-e4dbd1dcdf32

If you're still experiencing the issue, please rename the Caches folder to Caches.old from:
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\<Version>\<Language>\ and test.

Also, rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe

If that doesn't help, rename the UXP folder to UXP.old from both:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe and C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe

Then relaunch InDesign and let us know your observations.

We'll be happy to investigate further.

    Abhishek
