Unable to draw text boxes - like autoselect is on.

Please help!

i've uninstalled and reinstalled hoping it will help.  When i use my text tool to draw a new text box, and i drag and draw the box, it just selects the box that might be in the layer beneath, or if there is no layer its not inserting a box.

I've had no problem with it, until this morning its like my shortcuts or autoselect has been turned on, and i cant get it to work!

please help

Hi @CScho:

Even more questions for you:

  • Is this happening in one file or in all files?
  • Did you just install an InDesign upgrade?
  • Open Window > Layers. Do you see any padlock icons in the column to the right of the eyeballs?

Are you holding down any keys when you draw the text frame?

You can't draw a box on top of other text boxes. You can either start them away from the other boxes or put the others on locked/hidden layers.
