Could you please confirm if you’re still facing this problem? If yes, it would help to know the exact version of InDesign you’re using along with your OS details.

In the meantime, please try manually resetting InDesign preferences by following the steps shown in the video at the bottom of this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html

Also, please make sure there are no background processes or stuck sessions running on your system and try rebooting your machine once before testing again.

If the issue persists, could you check if this happens with all files or only specific ones? Additionally, try isolating this by testing in Safe Mode to rule out any third-party interference. You can use these steps:
