Unable to export just a few pages with Indesign CC2018

I'm trying to just export a few pages.  My only options under Range is All Pages and Custom V.  Custom V still exports the whole document.  How can I specify a range of pages, say from 10-15?

I assume you are exporting PDF but this would apply to other kinds of export as well. In the  Export dialog, where it says Range: Letter V or Custom V: You can type a range into that field, like 3-7, or whatever.

The reason you're seeing the Custom V is probably because in the Pages panel > panel menu > View Pages, the display has been set to a feature called By Alternate Layout. Choose either Horizontal or Vertical display instead.

My problem was that I was trying to do this while defining a Pre-set and the Range option was grayed out.  I had not noticed that it was working in the dialog box when I exported with the pre-set I normally used for the whole book.
