Unable to open Adobe files in InDesign

Hi there, hoping someone can help me. I have been trying & failing to open files created in Illustrator & saved as SVG files in InDesign. I keep getting the error message that I need to get a plug in or that the file is open in another source.

Please can anyone help me out?

Greatly appreciated

InDesign cannot open Illustrator AI or SVG files. In Illustratator, save the SVG files as an Adobe Illustrator (AI) file with a PDF preview. Then you can place (File > Place) the graphic into InDesign.

If you want to EDIT an Illustrator file then you must use Illustrator. If you want to place it, unchanged, on s page use InDesign.

InDesign cannot "open" any image file, you must use "Place"; see How to place, import, and insert images into InDesign

Note that InDesign cannot work with any variant of SVG, neither with "Open" (which you should not use) nor with the correct command "Place". If your original file type is AI, use that. If you care about proper color management, export to PDF and place that instead.

And preferable to that is to save a copy of the .AI file as a PDF/X/4 file in Illustrator and place that into InDesign.
