Unable to put matadata caption on one line (as one paragraph)

When using the ‘generate live caption’ -and i read more than one data-field- the caption is placed over several paragraphs.

When this is used in combination with numbering paragraphs (to auto number the pictures) every line gets a new number e.g.

So this is a pretty useless option right now, I have no idea how to fix this…

Hi Erwin:

You can share a saved Find/Change query with others so that they will have it available in their drop-down list in their Find/Change dialog box. For example, here is where they are stored on a Mac. You can just copy the contents of the Find-Change Queries folder (or just a subfolder or just a single query) from one computer to another.

As for hoping that InDesign will change how captions work—which I support—remember that this is a user-to-user forum (users helping other users). Be sure to file a feature request here: https://indesign.uservoice.com/.

What is happening is you have assigned a paragraph style to the captions, and InDesign generates each caption as its own paragraph and assigns the style to each of them. That behavior can't be changed in the Caption Setup dialog box so you will need to address this after the captions are generated.

You can use Find/Change to change the hard returns to soft returns or spaces after you generate the captions. The live captions will still update.

Thanks! This is an option, at least for me. But as we are an agency with more designers I think I will soon run into trouble... I hope inDesign will make a change to the way caption numbering works...

But yes, thank you for your solution!
