Unexpected JPEG File Size on Export from InDesign

Good morning,

 

I am having an issue with sizing during export in InDesign, and I am not sure why this happens.

 

I export a file as a JPEG, and its 73mb's, so then I have to open it in Photoshop and resize it again there to get it down in size. Upon saving from Photoshop, its down to 26mb's, even though all I did in Photoshop was to open, go to Image Resize and literally not change anything, but just click "OK" and save.

 

Why is this happening? I only have the images under one layer and text under another.

Hi,

 

The file was only created in InDesign, then it was exported from InDesign as a JPEG.

 

We then opened that JPEG in Photoshop, and without changing anything we just re-saved it as a JPEG and the size of the file went down inexplicably.

 

We have to do this every time we export a JPEG out of InDesign. We don't seem to have many sizing options when exporting a file as an Image from InDesign, and something happens inside InDesign that is increasing the file size. The image we worked on was at 300dpi when exported from Photoshop too, but the size went down to 26mb's versus the 73mb's that the same image had when it was exported out of InDesign had.

I don't know if that's the reason for your particular concern, but:

 

Every time you save JPEG, it's being further compressed, and thus its size can be reduced. Therefore, every time you save JPEG, you reduce its quality (especially since you're using Medium quality).
