Help

I am working on a product catalogue and I use datamerge.

Everything went well untill i started to use text frames ( the black and white textboxes ). it seems that after the merge, Indesign adds some bullcrap empty space, it looks like literal empty non-breaking-spaces.

Whenever I change a random setting it suddenly randomly jumps to it's intended position, this makes me feel like it's a bug or something.

the empty space seems to be pushing the inline items away.

I didnt put anything like this in the template and the data merge file is clean.

anybody have any idea what's going on? This problems prevents me from using datamerge effectively.

Hello Abhishek!

thank you for your prompt reply. It seems that this was due to my own in-experience and a small bug in indesign. I asked a senior employee at my company to talk about this problem.

the text box did not have a object style, instead it adhered to a paragraph style. there was no fixed with or max with so it just automatically scaled with the content BUT after the merge it adhered to the paragraph styling of the TEMPLATE text box.

After adding a max with in object styling the problem was solved.

thanks a lot anyway for your help

Hi @Youri25171622z6nj,

Could you please let me know which version of InDesign you're using and the details of your operating system?

From what you've shared, it sounds like there might be some hidden characters sneaking in after the merge. Please try turning on hidden characters by going to Type > Show Hidden Characters after the merge and see if anything unusual pops up. It's also a good idea to open your data source in a plain text editor and double-check for any extra tabs or spaces, especially at the end of fields.

Let me know if this is happening with all your data merge files or just this one. It would be helpful if you could share a screen recording showing the issue and how it shifts after applying the data merge.

Looking forward to your update!

Abhishek
