Update all text instances at once

Is there a way that i can globally update a word/number once, and it globally updates throughout the indd file? I'm working on a report that references numeric data values throughout, both inside indd tables, and text boxes, and i have to meticulously track any updates throughout the document. If there was a way to link numbers throughout the report as I go, that i can globally update as changes process, that would be very helpful!

You can use the Content Collector/Placer tools in combination with the Place and Link command:

https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/linked-content.html

The text you place using Place and Link will appear in the Links panel; it will be updated when you update the source text.

It's possible that there are other ways to achieve what you need as well, depending on the specifics of your document.
