Updated Document Not Refreshing on Publish Online

I published an online document using “Publish Online.” The initial upload worked perfectly — the link was created, the document name was applied, my preset settings were saved, and everything displayed correctly.

However, after making edits to the same file and republishing to update the existing link, I started experiencing issues. Sometimes the link shows the updated version, and other times it still displays the old version of the file. This happens even when I check in an incognito/private browser window, so it doesn’t appear to be a cache issue on my side.

Has anyone experienced this problem before or found a reliable solution?

I am also having this issue with one of my documents. I’m using InDesign Version 21.4.1 x64 on Windows 11 Pro. I tried resetting the InDesign preferences as suggested and that didn’t work. All of the other docs I publish online are not having this problem, so I feel like it’s document-specific

Hi @jamietyree,

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear you're running into this issue.

Could you please confirm whether InDesign Publish Online window completes the Publish Online update without any error, but the published link still shows the older version, or do you receive an error during the update process?

Since this appears to be limited to a single document, could you also try saving the document as IDML, reopening the IDML, saving it as a new INDD, and then updating or publishing again to rule out any document corruption. Additionally, please duplicate the document (File > Save As) and publish it as a new Publish Online document to check whether the issue is limited to updating the existing publication.

It would also be helpful if you could compare this document with one that updates successfully to see if it contains any unusual assets, links, or document structure.

If the issue persists, could you please share the affected INDD (preferably packaged), the Publish Online URL, and a short screen recording showing the update process along with the published link continuing to display the older version? If the file is confidential, feel free to send it to me via DM using any cloud-sharing service such as Google Drive or Dropbox.

Looking forward to your update.

Thanks,
Abhishek

I am also having this issue with one of many documents. All of the others update fine. I’m using InDesign Version 21.4.1 x64 on Windows 11 Pro.

Hi @abdullah_5976,

Thanks for getting in touch about this. To understand the issue better, could you please confirm which version of InDesign and which operating system you are currently using, and whether this only happens with a specific document or with others too.

I tried replicating the behavior here using InDesign 21.0.2 on Windows 11 and the updates reflected correctly for me, so any additional details about how often you see the mismatch would be helpful.

If possible, please share one of the affected InDesign files along with the Publish Online link, so I can test the update behavior on my side as well. You can share via any cloud service, or through DM if the content is confidential.

It may also help to manually reset InDesign preferences once and try republishing again. Ref: https://adobe.ly/4pWd3lA

Looking forward to your update.
