Question

Updates wont' keep my settings (workspace, shortcuts, etc)

Hello, I profoundly dislike updating my programs because I keep losing my preferred settings, workspace and shortcuts, even though when I update it says it will keep them. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks! 🙂

Hi @rominar1584059:

My preferred upgrade path entails choosing not to migrate preferences because we see so much post-upgrade preferences coruption here on the forums. It only takes me a few minutes (five) to reset any preferences in a new version. I also don't remove the old version when I upgrade until I'm sure I no longer want to use it.

However, I do manually copy over my custom workspaces, Find/Change queries, scripts, Word style mapping, shortcut sets, etc. (I also back these folders up.) I wrote up the process here: https://www.rockymountaintraining.com/adobe-indesign-how-to-copy-your-presets-after-an-update/

Thank you for you quick answer 🙂
Oh... I did it manually too, just thought there must be a better way. So the short answer would be, it's not me, it's just a bad service, how lame of them!

And Adobe has the verve to ask feedback about why I don't like updating. LOL
Thanks again 🙂

Try going to Edit>Migrate Previous Local Settings.

As long as you didn't delete your previous preferences, it should update.
