Updating links with multiple levels

I made a file .indd that loads images in frames from an .ai where images are set on multiple levels. Every frame display a different image (level) from the .ai. The problem is that whenever I make a change to the .ai, the links in .indd update and set al frames to the last level edited in the .ai. Is there a way to avoid this behavior and have Indesign maintain those levels that have not been edited untouched?

Thanks.
