These versions are too old, and their support ceased a long time ago. There's no way to upgrade from CS4 to CS6. If you're unable to use your CS4 software anymore, your only available official option is to subscribe to the current Creative Cloud version. You can subscribe to InDesign only or to the entire Creative Cloud suite (and, possibly, there are other plans). Please see Adobe website for more info. Don't hesitate to ask any questions here, too.

Back in the day, when you purchased an Upgrade (which was less expensive than a full outright brand new copy) you received software that was designated as an Upgrade version, i.e. you had to have had a previous version already installed on your computer (or have that previous version serial number) for it to install. Still, this is moot as CS6 is no longer available in any way.

Your only option is to subscribe to Creative Cloud. If your hardware is not capable of running anything past CS6, you are out of luck.

As @leo.r rightly mentioned these are versions that Adobe no longer sells so there is no official way to upgrade to CS6. I am not sure but CS6 activation servers may already be or would soon be taken down going by what happened with previous versions. From Adobe the only offering now are subscription based.
