URGENT – ISOcoated_v2_300_eci conversion when doing a PDF through indesign, not working

Hi, I have indesign using the FOG39 colourspace as default (across briedge). We have a PDF for a magazine that requires ISOcoated_v2_300_eci. The images are in CMYK (though a mix of Fog and ISO).

 

I want to convert the PDFX/1 2004 into 'ISOcoated_v2_300_eci'. I have placed and selected the profile in indesign and converted (preserve numbers). But when I go to Acrobat and check the ink coverage the black is still over the 300 density.

 

I cant work out how to convert the PDF successfully into the profile and apply the profile to meet the spec, can someone help.

    When you place a PDF into InDesign it should be PDF/X-4 with life transparency and RGB images. The color management policy should keep CMYK values to avoid CMYK-Lab-CMYK conversions. That is why your FOGRA files are not converted to ECI 300. 
    Conversion to the output profile should not happen before PDF export.

       Just to be clear there has to be a CMYK to CMYK conversion of the Fogra CMYK images in order to get the ISOcoated ink limit.

      Hi @Rob30857349c3uq , For total ink to be enforced there needs to be a conversion, so your placed CMYK images would need an embedded profile—check Link Info ICC Profile to make sure InDesign is getting the profile— and with your docuemt assigned ISOcoated_v2_300_eci, Export with the Output Color Conversion set to Convert to Destination with the Destination set to Document CMYK.

       

      The better workflow for handling total ink and color managemed conversions is to placed profiled RGB images and let the final color conversions be RGB to Document CMYK on the Export rather than RGB to CMYK1 to CMYK2, which is what will happen in your current workflow.
