Variable font weight change stops ability to save/undo

Another variable font and Indesign challenge:

Changing weight on variable fonts seems to stop the ability to save and undo (they become greyed out).

This happens with Tomato Grotesk and other variable fonts.

There are so many issues with InDesign and variable fonts, yet Illustrator and Photoshop work fine...online design applications work fine...Figma works fine...why is it taking so long to sort these issues out when you have two product teams within your company that have eliminated the issues? Talk to each other and solve it: PLEASE.
