Vertical line appears in front of paragraph and gaps when I copy paste text from docs

Hi all,

I was hoping you could shed some light on what's happening here (image attached). This occurs whenever I copy and paste text from Google Docs into InDesign. It doesn't happen all the time but it has happened enough times for me to keep an eye on them and remove these lines whenever I see them. They do show up in exported PDFs.

Does anybody know why this is happening, what's that line called and how I can stop it from happening?

Thank you!

You can also try Paste Without Formatting, which strips everything but text from the material. This gives you a cleaner starting point even if you have to reapply some formatting.

Use Ctrl-Alt-V to paste text. There are some more layers to the feature as well.

I'd guess it's just a non-printable character created by Google Docs. Try to look at the Google Docs document and see if you see a pattern of where it appears. If you can figure that out, fix it in Google Docs.
