Question

Video doesn't appear in InDesign

When I try to insert a video in InDesign, it only shows a blank box. Also, the Media Panel doesn't work. The video is in MP4, and InDesign is updated to its most current version. What can I do to solve this?

What is the purpose to use a mp4 in InDesign?

In InDesign you will not watch movies, it is also not possible in PDFs anymore. Only ins some online formats based on html5 I see a use for it.

Thank you for your reply. It is for an interactive film pitch deck, that is why I'm trying to use MP4. I will use Publish Online as the final output format.

My advice: Use Powerpoint for any kind of deck like this.

What does "the media panel doesn't work" mean? Also, please be more specific about InDesign version. It is updated / patched pretty often and adding in your O/S information might also prove helpful.

Thank you for your reply. As can be seen in the picture I attached, the media panel is blank. The InDesign version is 17.2.1

There's no picture. You can't do that via email. 17.3 is rolling out now and if the media panel is truly blank the cure for that would be trashing your preferences.

What will be your final output format, hopefully not Interactive PDF?

Make sure your MP4 is using the proper codec (H.264)

Try re-encode your video (Adobe Media encoder can do that for you) and try again.

Thank you for your reply. It is already using H.264.
